Developmental Trauma, Adverse Childhood Experiences and Attachment-Based Issues

When we experience any form of abuse in childhood – physical, emotional, sexual – it leads to a certain way of perceiving yourself, other people, and the wider world. It may impact on the way we form relationships as adults; struggling to connect with others, or perhaps fostering unhealthily dependent connections. We may even struggle to feel a connection with ourselves.

Any kind of trauma at a young age, an adverse childhood experience, may end up creating a disconnect between the mind and body and prevent us from living in the present moment. Sometimes leading to the same issues or patterns of behaviour coming up over and over again.

Our work will involve engaging with your experiences in a compassionate and curious way. I will provide the space you need to make sense of/begin to understand your lived experience(s).

Depression

If you are experiencing depression, it can be easy to feel like things will never get better – that your situation is hopeless. You are not alone in this feeling.

Depression affects many people, and it can take time before things feel different. I will be with you, working closely with you to observe your thoughts in a compassionate, informed way. And, over time, allowing you to access your own inner potential for growth and empowerment.

Anxiety

Anxiety is much more than a psychological process. It is something you actively hold in your body – a manifestation of trauma that has not been discharged and can leave you with a feeling of unease.

You may feel constantly overwhelmed, overthink and catastrophise over certain issues, experience social anxiety and panic attacks, or engage in obsessive-compulsive behaviours. I am here to help you as you walk through these feelings in a way that is comfortable to you, creating the space that you need to find your way.
